Make Elkton Wet group gets 250 signatures, question likely to be on May ballot

A group of Elkton residents hoping to legalize alcohol sales in that city has submitted enough signatures to get the question on the May primary ballot.

They turned in the signatures of 250 people who want the question of whether to allow alcohol sales on the ballot to the Todd County Clerk’s Office on Monday, according to Laura Brock of Make Elkton Wet.

Todd County Deputy Clerk Cindy O’Bryan says that should be more than enough signatures to get the question on the ballot, but they are in the process of verifying that the registered voters who signed live within the city limits of Elkton.

Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield is responsible for setting an election date and says he intends to make it coincide with the May primary. He says it would be more efficient and cost-effective for the county and it’s the wish of the petitioners.
