The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is providing a much-needed place to stay warm on evenings during this period of extreme cold weather.
Major Jose Marquez says the community and City of Hopkinsville have been very supportive as the Salvation Army implements its Extreme Weather Event Shelter at the soup kitchen on nights when the temperature or wind chill is 15 degrees or less.
The regular shelter has maintained its normal hours of operation, but the emergency shelter allows some extra space to keep more people warm and safe from the cold.
Anyone wanting to lend a hand to the Salvation Army can donate supplies that can help protect people from the cold.
It’s also important to take care of pets during the extreme cold. Bring them inside when possible and be sure they have shelter from the wind and an ample supply of food and unfrozen water when bringing them in is not an option.
