A record crowd of 8,969 at the CFSB Center saw the Murray State Racers seven-game win streak and run of 17 consecutive wins in the Ohio Valley Conference come to an end Thursday in a 79-66 defeat to the Belmont Bruins. Belmont coach Rick Byrd recorded his 700th career victory at Belmont in the game.
Ja Morant led the Racers with 20 points and nine assists. The Racers lost for the first time in the OVC this season in falling to 6-1 in the conference and 15-3 overall.
Belmont swept the doubleheader in winning the women’s game 65-58. The Racers are now 6-12 on the season and 2-5 in the OVC. Murray State’s teams will entertain Tennessee State tomorrow with the women’s game beginning at 5 pm in the CFSB Center.
