Unemployment up slightly across region last month

Unemployment was up slightly from November to December in eight of nine Pennyrile counties, but the numbers were still down from last year in most areas.

Christian County’s jobless rate was 4.3 percent, up from 4.1 percent in November, but down from 4.6 percent in December 2017.

It equated to 1,077 people who were looking for work, but who were unable to find it.

Todd County maintained western Kentucky’s lowest jobless rate at 3.1 percent, up from 2.9 percent in November. It was down from 3.3 percent a year ago.

The unemployment rate in Trigg County was an even 4 percent, up from 3.7 percent in November and down from 4.7 percent in December of 2017.

Livingston County had the Pennyrile region’s highest jobless rate at 5.8 percent.

The state average was 3.8 percent and the national number was 3.7 percent.
