Reds acquire hurler Gray from Yankees

The Cincinnati Reds are adding Sonny Gray to their rotation. The New York Yankees traded Gray and lefty reliever Reiver Sanmartin to the Reds for second-base prospect Shed Long and a competitive balance draft pick in 2019. Gray will be reunited with new Reds pitching coach Derek Johnson, who was his collegiate pitching coach at Vanderbilt.

Gray signed a three-year $30.5 million contract extension with Cincinnati taking him through 2022 with a club option for 2023. Gray went 11-and-9 with a 4.90 ERA in 30 games, 23 of them starts, last season.
