YMCA talks membership, transparency at annual meeting

The Hopkinsville-Christian County YMCA held its annual meeting Tuesday afternoon where they boasted of becoming more transparent and selecting a new President and CEO.

Outgoing Chief Volunteer Officer Spencer Kilijian went over the financial report briefly, saying they saw an increase in membership dollars with $1.4 million in 2018—up from $968,000 2017. He says they contracted a private company to help them with reporting and being more transparent, which was a goal for the YMCA in 2018.

Newly appointed President and CEO Sheryl Ellis says the YMCA continues to offer many services, programs and outreach initiatives, which have been well attended.

The YMCA reported they had 5,089 members, ranging from infants to citizens over 65 years of age. Ellis says she’s excited to see what impact the YMCA will have on the community in the coming year.

The organization will begin its annual fundraising campaign beginning on February 1, which will focus on funding programs such as Rock Steady Boxing, Youth Fitness and Training Classes, the Summer Youth Program and Special Needs Camp.
