Elkton rededicates street to honor local hero

Elkton honored a local hero Friday afternoon with the rededication of what was North Weathers Lane as Mr. Guy Mallory Lane.

Mallory served his country during World War II and during the Korean conflict. He later retired from the U.S. Post Office in Elkton. The street named in his honor is adjacent to that building—a fact that Mayor Arthur Green says makes the location appropriate.

Mallory also donated land for the Todd County Senior Center and for the Public Library.

Mayor Green says Mallory’s legacy will live on in Elkton through his donations and through the friendships he built with so many residents.

City Council approved an ordinance in 2018 to rename the street and former Mayor Jackie Weathers was on hand to read the document. Mallory’s niece, Elizabeth Miller, said her uncle loved Elkton and that he would have been very honored by the gesture.

Nephew Robert Mallory and great-niece Beth Austin were also on hand for the occasion.

Mallory died last year at the age of 102.
