Clarksville PD: Man charged in relation to storage unit break-ins

A man is facing multiple charges following a foot pursuit in Clarksville Friday where he jumped into a river to try and escape custody.

According to a news release from the Clarksville Police Department, officers responded to the area of Providence Boulevard around 1:10 a.m. for reports of shots fired. A traffic stop was performed on a vehicle seen leaving the area and officers recognized a passenger as Damien Gray, who reportedly had several active felony warrants out for his arrest.

Gray reportedly left the vehicle, fled behind a nearby Waffle House and then jumped into the river behind that location in an attempt to escape. Officers were reportedly able to talk him into getting out of the river and he was taken into custody.

He was arrested and served with warrants for seven counts of burglary, six counts of theft of property, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle and vandalism.

The warrants stemmed from over a dozen storage unit break-ins from Sinclair Drive and Hermitage Road, a motorcycle taken from one of the units and a truck taken from another business location with about $15,000 worth of items taken.
