As the Hopkinsville Transit System continues to grow, Thursday they cut the ribbon for a new bus stop shelter at Hopkinsville Community College.
HCC President Dr. Alissa Young says the college was happy to be included in discussion about the transit system, and it has truly made a difference in the lives of their students and their education.
Nikki Durham with the City of Hopkinsville says Hopkinsville is known for setting the bar high, as they have with the transit system.
Councilman Paul Henson co-chairs the Transit Committee says the shelter located at the college is just one of 18 that will be built in the city.
Henson says in the first week of 2019, the system had over 1,200 rides taken and compared to the same time last year, that’s an 84 percent increase. The shelters feature four-sided protection from the elements, seating, motion-sensor lighting, large print schedules, and advertising panels.
