Local legislators say gambling won’t solve Ky. pension woes

While the first meeting of the newly formed Public Pensions Working Group will be tomorrow in Frankfort as legislators on both sides of the aisle attempt to find solutions—two local legislators don’t believe expanded gambling will be the answer.

Fourth District state Representative Lynn Bechler of Marion doesn’t believe there would be enough newly generated tax revenues from expanding gambling or legalizing marijuana to justify going those routes.

Ninth District Representative Myron Dossett says he fears there would be far more negative impacts than positive to expanding sports gambling or opening casinos in Kentucky.

Kentucky and many others states are debating what to do with sports gambling after a U.S. Supreme Court decision last year gave states authority to decide if they want to allow betting on sports such as basketball and football.
