Two local legislators hesitant on medical marijuana

Legislation was unveiled this week that would make medical marijuana legal in Kentucky, but it’s not certain how much momentum House Bill 136 can gain during the 2019 short session of the General Assembly.

State Representative Lynn Bechler of Marion doesn’t currently support the bill and doesn’t think it will pass this year.

Bechler believes many proponents of medical marijuana are using it as a way to get closer to legalizing recreational use.

Ninth District Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke isn’t totally against medical marijuana, but would want medical professionals to strictly limit what it could be prescribed to address.

The General Assembly has adjourned for three weeks. Hear local lawmakers discuss medical marijuana, pensions and several other topics on our Legislative Update program Sunday morning at 9 on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com.
