Trial delayed, special prosecutor requested in Steve Tucker case

Trial was delayed in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday for former Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Tucker as he waits for a special prosecutor to be appointed in his case.

Defense attorney H. B. Quinn represents Tucker and requested that trial be delayed due to  a special prosecutor not yet being appointed so close to the trial date. Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling says both he and former Commonwealth’s Attorney Lynn Pryor requested a special prosecutor, but he has not yet heard who will fill that position.

Circuit Judge Andrew Self was hesitant to delay the trial, saying it has been continued several times before, but he did eventually agree to delay it a short time until February 14. He says he hopes that’s enough time for a special prosecutor to be appointed and review the case.

Tucker is accused of stealing $55,000 over seven years from the Christian County Juvenile Services Foundation. Kentucky State Police says Tucker served as president of the foundation, but the position was not contractually connected to his role as a deputy at the sheriff’s department.

The foundation is responsible for raising funds that pay for drug testing and graduation ceremonies associated with the Christian County Juvenile Drug Court.
