Calloway Co. pursuit leads to arrest

A pursuit that began in Tennessee ended with a foot pursuit and search in Calloway County and with the arrest of a suspect.

Henry County, Tennessee deputies pursued a vehicle into Calloway County and terminated in the city limits of Hazel, according to a news release, which says Calloway County deputies engaged with the vehicle and the driver nearly collided head-on with Sheriff Sam Steger’s cruiser on US 641.

The driver, Vencie Bell, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee, traveled onto several streets in Murray and abandoned his vehicle in the yard of a home and took off on foot. Deputies later located a vehicle driven by a person Bell had contacted to pick him up and a search of the area turned up Bell at a home on Peggy Ann Drive.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police and several other counts related to the pursuit.

Kentucky State Police and the Murray Police Department assisted in the investigation.
