City council approves bonds, lease for Probation and Parole relocation

Hopkinsville City Council approved the issuance of bonds and a lease agreement in relation to moving Probation and Parole to a new location in the Williams Chevrolet building at Tuesday’s meeting.

Approved on first reading, the $1 million in bonds were issued to fund renovations to the building on South Clay Street. Mayor Carter Hendricks says the move has been in discussion for a long time and says the lease agreement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky will pay for the bonds.

He calls the situation a win-win for everyone involved.

The lease is for 7 years at about $113,000 a year with the option to renew.

In other action, city council approved amendments to the general fund that moves $1.3 million in prior year revenues from the general fund to the Capital Equipment and Property Replacement Budget to allow for purchase of a new fire truck.

Fourteen new firefighters were sworn in at the meeting to their new positions on the Hopkinsville Fire Department.
