Rep. Bechler not optimistic pension reform gets done in 2019

State Representative Lynn Bechler isn’t confident the General Assembly will get a pension reform bill passed during the 2019 session that begins Tuesday.

It will require a super-majority in both chambers during the odd-numbered session and Bechler says that’ll be hard to get in the House.

He also disagrees with the Supreme Court’s ruling that the process of using a bill substitute to pass Senate Bill 151 for pension reform last year was unconstitutional.

One item he believes will get done quickly is giving tax exempt status back to non-profits in Kentucky who lost it with a recent court decision.

Representative Bechler has pre-filed legislation to remove the statute of limitations for child sex abuse cases and to give the Attorney General authority to call a statewide grand jury. He’s also filed a bill to outlaw sanctuary cities in Kentucky.

Bechler represents a portion of Christian and all of Caldwell, Crittenden and Livingston counties.
