Retiring sheriff, deputies honored by community

Recently retired Christian County Sheriff Livy Leavell and several retiring deputies were honored by friends, family and members of the community during a reception Friday night at the Fairgrounds Convention Center.

Leavell presented shadow boxes containing the uniforms of retired Majors Billy Gloyd and Tim Cooksey and Lieutenant Scott Noisworthy. New Sheriff Tyler Dearmond presented Leavell with a box containing his own uniform.

Leavell thanked his supporters who helped elect him three times as sheriff and five times as jailer.

He’s already enjoyed the first four days of retirement and says he looks forward to less stress on the family farm.

Major Gloyd spent over four decades in law enforcement—including time as a military police officer, with the Hopkinsville Police Department, the old Christian County Police Department, four years as sheriff and a majority of those years as a deputy.

He says it was never a job to him and he was honored to serve.

Leavell also presented a plaque to Pam Glover, who retired from the sheriff’s department in 2017 after more than 25 years of service.

Leavell thanked Judge-Executive Steve Tribble, retired Christian County Attorney Mike Foster and all of the magistrates he’s worked with for their support to him and to the jail and sheriff’s department.
