Rep. Thomas says 2019 session will include pension, tax issues

Eighth District state Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville knows pension reform will be the top priority in the 2019 session of the General Assembly that begins Tuesday, but he also has his eye on other items.

Regarding pensions, Thomas says lawmakers could look to work from Senate Bill 151 that passed last year before the Supreme Court struck it down based on procedural issues.

Thomas is cosponsoring legislation to tax exempt military retirees, but he believes that would likely have to come with larger tax reform in a 2020 session.

One tax item likely to be cleaned up in 2019 is tax exempt status for some non-profits that became an issue with another court decision last year.

You can hear Representative Thomas and other local lawmakers Sunday morning at 9 as they preview the 2019 session on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com.
