Shoplifting complaint turns into robbery, drug arrest

What began as a shoplifting complaint at the Hopkinsville Piggly Wiggly Saturday afternoon ended with a suspect being charged with felonies.

Officers were called to the store regarding 53-year old Columbus McGee of Hopkinsville trying to steal a ham and learned he had shoved an employee in an attempt to get away. Police say they found a piece of metal tubing with charred residue consistent with smoking cocaine on his person and a search at the jail allegedly revealed a small partially smoked marijuana cigarette.

McGee is charged with second-degree robbery, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and promoting contraband.
