Section of US 79 to be dedicated to honor fallen soldier from Allensville

There will be a ceremony in Todd County Saturday morning to dedicate a section of US 79 to honor a Fort Campbell soldier and Allensville resident who was killed in June of 2017 in Afghanistan.

The Sgt. William M. Bays Memorial Highway will be officially dedicated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nutrien Ag Solutions facility, located at 7645 Allensville Road, according to a news release.

State Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton and Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County will be on hand to present a resolution and unveil the memorial sign in honor of Sgt. Bays.

Petrie, who sponsored the resolution to dedicate the section of highway during the 2018 regular session, is quoted in a news release as saying “Sgt. William Bays is a hero to us all here in Todd County. With this sign dedication, it ensures that his service to this country lives on for future generations to honor and remember.”

Sgt. Bays’ family is expected to be at the ceremony and the public is also welcome to attend.
