State Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke doesn’t believe lawmakers should be in Frankfort for a special session, but he believes they’ll pass a pension reform bill by the end of the weekend.
Dossett says he wishes Governor Matt Bevin would have allowed the General Assembly to wait until the 2019 regular session.
He says lawmakers should pass legislation with language identical to Senate Bill 151—which was signed into law after this year’s regular session—but was recently struck down by the Supreme Court because of the procedural issues.
Dossett is confident such a bill will be passed this week.
He also stressed that the legislation also must cap required contributions to the pension systems from cities, school systems and other agencies so that necessary increases can be phased in.
