Man arrested for DUI after registering .277 following crash

A local man was arrested for DUI Friday afternoon after he was involved in a wreck at Canton Street and Grandview Drive.

The collision happened about 3:30 p.m. and the report from Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Tony Sierra says 31-year old Devin Richardson of Hopkinsville was northbound on Grandview when he proceeded into the intersection with Canton and struck a westbound pickup operated by 80-year old Norris Boyd of Hopkinsville.

Boyd’s truck began to spin and came to rest facing the opposite direction.

No one was injured, but police say Richardson smelled of alcohol and registered a blood alcohol content of .277 on the breathalyzer test—well over three times the legal limit.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI and driving on a suspended license. His passenger, 28-year old Ashley West of Oak Grove, was cited into court for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate her car and for not having registration or insurance on the vehicle.
