Gov. Bevin to be on Fort Campbell Friday as National Guard troops return

Governor Mat Bevin will be on Fort Campbell Friday for a special homecoming ceremony for 38 Kentucky National Guardsmen who have been serving alongside 101st Airborne Division soldiers overseas.

The Kentucky National Guard’s Louisville-based 101st Main Command Post-Operational Detachment has augmented the 101st Airborne Division over the past 12 months during the train-up period and deployment to Afghanistan.

Fort Campbell Commander, Maj. Gen. Andrew Poppas says in a news release, “Today’s citizen Soldiers are remarkable. We are thankful for the diverse and flexible skills they provide to not only our division, but the nation, as it confronts strategic and tactical challenges in Afghanistan and beyond.”

Gov. Bevin will join state and federal officials at the farewell ceremony that’s set for 11:30 a.m. at the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters.
