Emergency responders in Clarksville were able to pull a woman and her baby out of a storm drain Thursday evening.

Clarksville dispatch received the call a few minutes after 6:30 when a woman was walking through a parking lot on Cardinal Lane and a storm grate gave way as she attempted to walk over it.

A passerby heard a baby crying below and dialed 911.

The woman and baby fell approximately 20 feet into the dry basin and they were not visible from ground level due to darkness.

First responders made entry into the storm drain at another location and were able to pull mother and child out safely. The mother was flown by LifeFlight to a Nashville hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening and the baby was taken by ambulance to Tenova for an abrasion that was not life-threatening.
