Hopkinsville Electric System and Energynet hosted a connection celebration in the Hunting Creek Road neighborhood Tuesday afternoon as they begin their gigabit fiber internet expansion in the city.
Energynet Telecommunications Manager Richard Shaw says HES is very excited to offer this service to the residents of the city, and Hunting Creek won the competition on who would get it first.
That competition is not over, as neighborhood can still compete to see what area gets it next and Shaw urges people to go online to goenergynet.com to sign up.
He says as HES determines which neighborhoods are next, they will travel into those areas and install the fiber gigabit service. Gigabit fiber internet is 100 times faster than average internet service in the area. The company will be the largest provider of gigabit fiber internet service in Hopkinsville, and joins a handful of U.S. cities providing such a service city-wide.
