Lackey considering recount after losing by two votes, Clardy won’t request recanvass

Christian County District 6 Fiscal Court Magistrate Jack Lackey is considering a request for a recount after losing by only two votes Tuesday to Phillip Peterson.

Lackey, who has served in that capacity since 2007, says he’s consulting with others and learning more about the process before coming to a final decision on how to proceed.

Lackey could also request a recanvass by the Christian County Clerk’s Office, but that process where the numbers are reexamined and calculated again almost never changes any figures. A recount would require a petition to be filed for a circuit judge to oversee the reexamining of ballots to determine the intent of each voter. The only recent recount in the area was in the 2014 Todd County sheriff’s race and it only changed the final tally by one vote.

Todd County Sheriff Tracy White won another close race Tuesday—defeating Elkton Police Captain Jason Clardy by only 19 votes. Clardy tells WHOP News that he will not be requesting a recanvass or recount.
