Waite Hoyt nominated for Frick Award

A Cincinnati Reds broadcasting legend is being posthumously nominated for Major League Baseball’s Ford C. Frick Award. The late Waite Hoyt is among eight finalists for the highest honor the Baseball Hall of Fame can bestow to broadcasters. Hoyt did play-by-play for the Reds from 1942 to 1966 and was known for his style of calling games in the past tense.

Hoyt was elected to the Hall of Fame as player in 1969 and was considered the pre-eminent authority on Babe Ruth, who he played with for seven seasons with the New York Yankees.
