Clarksville police charge man with murder of estranged wife

The Clarksville Police Department has arrested a man and charged him with murder in the Saturday death of his estranged wife.

According to a news release, officers responded to 510 Bellamy Lane and when they arrived they discovered a female victim identified as 41-year old Leila Chanane with multiple lacerations and incisions on her body. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers were able to locate her estranged husband, 40-year old Hamid Houbbadi, at 508 Bellamy with wounds that appeared to be self-inflicted. Investigation reportedly determined that there had been a physical altercation between the two and that’s when Chanane sustained fatal injuries.

There was a bloodstained knife located near Houbbadi that is reportedly consistent with the victim’s injuries. They were not residing together at the time of the incident and there is a history of domestic violence between them in a different jurisdiction.

Houbbadi is currently in custody and being treated for his injuries at a Nashville hospital.
