The Rotary Club of Elkton hosted debates Tuesday night for candidates running for county offices, commonwealth’s attorney and for mayor of Elkton.
Elkton Police Captain Jason Clardy is challenging Todd County Sheriff Tracy White, who is seeking a second term.
Regarding the war on drugs, Clardy says those fighting addiction need a path to a better life when they get out of jail.
White says it’s always heartening to hear success stories of those who’ve turned their lives around, but he believes drug dealers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sheriff White noted that his department has obtained a K9 and school resource officer during his first term and Captain Clardy says he’d work to be sure the department can keep the SRO when the grant comes up for renwal and he would partner with other agencies to keep schools as secure as possible.

Meanwhile, former Todd County Judge-Executive Arthur Green is running for mayor of Elkton and says he’d make Elkton a more business-friendly city.
Elkton City Councilman David Haley says he’ll focus on improving infrastructure.
Haley says he’d also speed up the process for obtaining the necessary permissions to build in Elkton and Green says he’d do a better job of celebrating the good things happening in the city.
