Xander Schauffele surged to the lead at the BMW Championship as both Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy dropped back in the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Schauffele followed up an opening-round 63 with a 6-under 64 to move to 13-under through 36 holes, two strokes ahead of Justin Rose after the Englishman carded a seven-under 63.
Woods and McIlroy shared the first-round lead but Woods struggled to a 70 to fall five shots off the pace at eight under and McIlroy is four back at nine under following a second-round 69. Louisville area native Justin Thomas also sits at nine under, while Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker is at even par.
