Murray State freshman killed in crash on WK Parkway

A Murray State University student was killed in a motor vehicle accident over the Labor Day weekend.

Interim President Bob Jackson said in a campus wide email Monday that freshman, 18-year old Joseph Penington, was a native of Hodgenville. He was killed in an accident that happened Friday as he headed home for the holiday weekend.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Department says Pennington was eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway when for unknown reasons he crossed the median and struck a westbound pickup.

Pennington and the driver of the pickup were both taken to a hospital in Louisville, where Pennington died. The driver of the pickup is expected to recover from serious injuries.

Pennington was a biology/pre-med major who hoped to one day become a doctor.
