Man charged with DUI, murder after woman falls from moving vehicle

The man charged with DUI and murder after a woman fell out of his Jeep on Striped Bridge Road Tuesday night was arraigned Wednesday morning in Christian District Court and additional details on the incident are now known.

Christian County Deputy Coroner Zach Lamb identified the victim as 49-year old Trina Akin of Trigg County.

An arrest citation for 31-year old Brandon Pickett of Striped Bridge Road says both of his arms were covered in blood when Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Rusty Rosencrance arrived on the scene at about 10 p.m.

Pickett reportedly said he had been drinking wine with Akin at a nearby home on Striped Bridge and they were on the way to his residence when the incident happened. Akin was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and fell out of the Jeep with no doors when Pickett made a left turn in the road.

Akin was taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and was pronounced deceased.

The report says Pickett refused all field sobriety tests, so police obtained a warrant to take a blood sample at the hospital.

Pickett appeared via video conferencing in Christian District Court Wednesday morning, where Judge Jim Adams explained his charges and entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Judge Adams appointed Pickett a public defender until he is able to obtain private counsel.

His bond was set at $50,000 and his driver’s license will be suspended, pending trial.
