One killed, one injured in apartment fire

Foul play is not suspected in connection with a fire at the Woodland Heights Apartment Complex on Greenville Road Tuesday morning that killed a man and put a woman in a Nashville hospital.

Firefighters were called to apartment G7 just after 2 a.m. and found 25-year old David Michael Keys and 22-year old Andra Pool of Hopkinsville inside. Keys was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner’s Office and Pool was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was listed Wednesday morning in critical but stable condition.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the fire and says an autopsy determined Keys died from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but KSP says arson is not suspected.

The Highland, West Side and Northwest volunteer fire departments responded to fight the fire, which briefly rekindled later in the morning.
