Two people who stayed at the Travel Inn on East Ninth Street earlier this month have been served with warrants for criminal mischief, alleging they urinated on beds and placed human feces in an air-conditioning unit.
The warrant says 25-year old Mykell Duncan and 28-year old Stephen Brown of Hopkinsville rented a room for $55 on the evening of July 6. Two hours later, they returned to the front desk and demanded their money back, saying the room had bed bugs.
They were advised the room did not have bed bugs and declined to return the cash, causing Brown and Duncan to become angry.
Employees encountered a foul smell when they went to clean the room the following day and determined both beds had been urinated on, soaking all the way to the box springs.
When the odor persisted, personnel determined the pair had allegedly opened the air conditioner unit, placed human feces inside and then reattached the cover and left the unit running.
The hot water was also left running in the sink and the bathtub.
Brown and Duncan are both charged with first-degree criminal mischief, as it cost the Travel Inn $600 to replace the beds and $265 to replace the air conditioning unit.
McGee Pest Control was able to confirm there were no bed bugs in the room.
