An 18-year old man was flown to a Nashville hospital after his vehicle crashed through the door to a vacant building next to Tractor Supply on the Eagle Way Bypass Thursday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Henderson said the driver left the travel portion of the road for unknown reasons and went into the building.

Hopkinsville Police identified the driver as Skylar Simmons. His SUV struck an embankment before hitting the glass and came to rest after striking a support beam inside. Simmons’ injuries were not thought to be life threatening. A woman who tried to assist him went to a local hospital by private vehicle after sustaining a laceration.

Hopkinsville Police is investigating the incident that happened a few minutes after noon. The Growing Minds Learning Center next door was temporarily evacuated until a structural analysis could be conducted on the building.
