Hoppers sweep Miners in Madisonville

The Hoptown Hoppers advanced to the West Division championship series with a 4-3 win over the Madisonville Miners. The game was tied at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Nick Proto hit what appeared to be a pop fly lost by Madisonville shortstop Caleb Nobles in the lights ended up rolling to the left field wall. He would score on a wild pitch to give the Hoppers a 2-1 lead.

The Hoppers added two more runs in the 7th inning to go up 4-1 before the Miners got a two run home run by Graham Hackbarth in the bottom of the 7th to pull within 4-3. The Miners would get runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 8th and 9th innings but could not get them home.

Nick Proto and Malik Blaise each had two hits for the Hoppers while Sage Holderfield got the pitching win and Hassan Wesbrook the save as Hoptown won its third straight game in improving to 23-20. Madisonville ended the season 14-27.

The Hoppers will next face Paducah Monday night at Colonel Field in the West Division championship series at 7:05. The Chiefs defeated Fulton 9-2 to sweep the other West Division series.
