Multiple indictments returned for robbery, assault

Multiple indictments were returned for assault and robbery Friday by a Christian County Grand Jury, including against the suspect in a shooting that took place on North Vine Street in May.

The indictments for first-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence and tampering with a prisoner monitoring device against 18-year Khalil Thacker of Hopkinsville allege he shot the victim, Barry Burchett, in the head. Burchett was found outside of a North Vine home and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.

Thacker allegedly threw the gun into a wooded area nearby in an attempt to hide it. He also allegedly cut an ankle monitor he was wearing off, before fleeing.  He was later located on Jan Drive and taken into custody.  According to the arrest report, Thacker allegedly admitted to shooting Burchett in the right side of his head.

Indicted for first-degree assault, possession of handgun by a convicted felon and trafficking in synthetic drugs is 32-year old Xavier Bryant of Hopkinsville. He allegedly struck a female victim in the head with a gun at Grupo in May.

Forty-year old Ronnie Ford of Paducah is indicted on charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and intimidating a participant in the legal process. He allegedly hit the victim multiple times in the head with a large Maglite flashlight before taking his wallet and car keys and threating to kill both the victim and the victim’s wife.  He was located later allegedly under the influence and arrested.

Indicted for first-degree robbery is 38-year old Laparkah Thomas of Hopkinsville. Thomas is accused of attacking a victim while armed with a knife and taking the money in his pockets before fleeing the scene.
