For the first time in 15 years, Elkton has a new fire engine and it should greatly enhance the department’s ability to fight fires—especially outside of the city limits.
Elkton Fire Department Deputy Chief Daniel Smith says the 2019 Freightliner with a Toyne body and pump doubles the capacity of any other engine they have.
Elkton recently improved its Insurance Service Office rating and this new truck is a first step toward improving it again—which could eventually mean lower home insurance rates for residents served by the department.
The truck was paid for with a Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters grant.
