HCC partners with Habitat for Humanity

Hopkinsville Community College is partnering with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Habitat for Humanity branch to construct a home and benefit multiple individuals.

According to a news release, the project coincides with the college’s first cohort group of construction students. Students will utilize their participation on the Habitat House as lab time to put what they learn in the classroom into action. Program Coordinator Bob Smith says, “Our students will be in class in the morning and working at the Habitat House in the afternoon. It will be a great teaching tool and a way to give back to our community.”

The local habitat office has constructed 30 homes in Christian County since its inception in 1992, with its latest being built in 2013. Habitat Office Manager Cindy Rawlings says this partnership is a blessing, because the local chapter had been facing difficulties in funding and unfulfilled volunteer roles.

She says, “The partnership with HCC will be a blessing and a mutual help to each organization. We are honored and excited to have this opportunity to have a set of built-in volunteers.”

Those interested in volunteering for or donating to the upcoming building project can contact the local Habitat office at (270) 885-8222.
