Hopkinsville man arrested for fourth DUI

A Hopkinsville man was arrested Tuesday evening for his fourth offense DUI after he was seen allegedly driving carelessly on Old Palestine Road.

According to a report from the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence at Old Palestine. Sixty-nine year old Gary Wood of Hopkinsville had left the residence intoxicated and he was observed operating a vehicle and reportedly swerving side-to-side.

A traffic stop was initiated and Wood allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, was unsteady on his feet and was reportedly unable to perform in field sobriety tests. A search of the vehicle revealed an open alcohol beverage in the floorboard and a half-empty bottle of alcohol in the console.

Wood is reported to have told deputies to take him to jail, he was drunk. He blew a .275 on a Breathalyzer test, which is over three times the legal limit.

Wood was arrested and charged with fourth-offense DUI, careless driving, possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle and failure to wear seat belts.
