Arts Council announces Big Read grant, book

The Pennyroyal Arts Council has once again received a $15,000 grant to put on the Hopkinsville-Christian County Big Read, and they announced the next book Monday.

According to a news release, the grant is through the National Endowment of the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Arts Council is excited to announce that this year’s read will focus on the book “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien.  Activities centered around this will take place from January through the end of February.

The Pennyroyal Arts Council will be partnering with Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County, Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, and many other local organizations and business to bring a variety of programming to the community. This year’s Big Read will kick off with a Vietnam War-era USO Show at the Alhambra. This year’s programming plans to utilize our military history to bring light to the memories and experiences of our veterans as well as active duty soldiers.

Executive Director Margaret Prim says, “We are excited to bring a wider community outreach into the programming this year. Christian County Chamber of Commerce’s Director of Military Affairs, Lindsey Geraci, brings new perspective to our Big Read team.”
