Todd County primary wrap-up

Mansfield

Todd County’s next judge-executive will be Todd Mansfield and the next county attorney is Jeff Traughber.

Mansfield defeated former judge-executive Kent Knight with about 82-percent of the vote and says he will help Todd County capitalize on the Novelis plant coming to Guthrie.

Traughber serves as city attorney for Trenton, Guthrie and Elkton and defeated Assistant county Attorney Mark Collins by a little less than 300 votes. Traughber says he’ll work to make going to court less time-consuming for police officers in Todd County.

Republican Brad Powell won by 96 votes over Lucille Bryant and will face Democrat Leslie Cunningham for Todd County Clerk in November. Cunningham defeated Amy Frogue by 169 votes and says already working as a deputy in the clerk’s office likely helped her case.

Jeff Penick got more votes than all three of his Republican opponents combined and will go on to oppose incumbent Jailer Greg Allen in November.

Kenneth Greenfield won by only two votes in the Republican primary for District 4 Magistrate against Carol Kirkman and will see Democrat incumbent Brent Spurlin in the fall.

District 3 Todd County Magistrate Johnny Camp will retain that seat with a resounding win over Wayne Belanger and Marvin Chandler won a three-way Democratic primary in District 2 to face Republican Billy Bryant in November.

The race for Commonwealth’s Attorney in Todd and Logan counties has shaped up to be Democrat Justin Crocker and Republican Neil Kerr after Kerr edged out Joe Hendricks by only 56 votes.

Also in Logan County, veteran Sheriff Wallace Whittaker was eliminated by Democrat Stephen Stratton, who will face Republican Scottie Harper in November.
