Two women are facing assault charges after a Christian County Grand Jury returned indictments Friday in relation to two separate incidents.

Indicted for second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence is 26-year old Alexis Lewis of Hopkinsville. The indictment alleges that Lewis assaulted a male victim on March 3 with a baseball bat following a verbal dispute on Hayes Street.  She allegedly followed him outside when he attempted to leave, after she reportedly slapped him, and struck him three times in the head with the bat.

The victim reportedly had visible lacerations on his head and blood on his face. Lewis allegedly hid the bat while telling officers that someone had taken it somewhere.  According to the report, Lewis admitted to hitting the victim with the bat.

Shannon Mearns is indicted for third-degree assault of a corrections officer after she allegedly kicked a deputy jailer while being booked into the Christian County Jail on March 17. She is also charged with disorderly conduct, DUI and possession of open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.

According to the report, Mearns was stopped on Cadiz Road in reference to a reckless driver and upon contact, investigation determined she was driving under the influence. Mearns reportedly told police that she had followed her GPS to that location from Nashville and it had also told her to drive on the opposite side of the road and she needed help because “the roads here are different from Texas”. Investigation determined that she was under the influence and she said she had taken medication and had consumed alcoholic beverages.

While being taken into custody, she allegedly became combatant with officers and later fought with jail staff, kicking a female deputy.
