Joey Votto and Eugenio Suarez each hit two-run bombs, while Luis Castillo pitched six-plus strong innings. Elsewhere in the National League: Clayton Richard tossed eight innings of two-run ball to guide the San Diego Padres past the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3. Adam Wainwright was chased in the third inning and took the loss. The Cardinals dropped two straight after winning the first two in the four-game set. St. Louis is off today.
Sean Newcomb extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings as the Atlanta Braves held on to beat the Miami Marlins 4-3. Newcomb allowed one hit and walked four over six shutout innings. The East Division leading Braves have won five of their last six games.
Interleague: The Chicago Cubs saw a five game win streak end as the Chicago White Sox defeated them 5-3. The Cubs and Atlanta Braves will play a makeup game this afternoon at Wrigley Field before heading to Atlanta to begin a three game series Tuesday.
