Extra chairs had to be brought into the Todd County District Courtroom Thursday night to accommodate the crowd that gathered for the Rotary Club of Elkton’s candidate forum.
Two Democrats are running for Todd County Judge-Executive—former Judge Kent Knight and former United Southern Bank President Todd Mansfield.
Mansfield, who currently works at his family’s auto dealership in Russellville, outlined his priorities—issues he feels touch almost everyone in the community in some way.
Knight served as judge-executive from 2003 to 2006 and says they began the process of building the jail, moved dispatch to its current location and improved the ambulance service during his tenure.
A Democratic primary between assistant county attorney Mark Collins and Elkton, Guthrie and Trenton city attorney Jeff Traughber will decide who succeeds the retiring veteran Todd County Attorney Mac Johns.
Traughber says he’ll work to resolve the ongoing conflict between the airport board and fiscal court.
Collins says he has experience in his current capacity in prosecuting misdemeanors and assisting with industrial recruitment.
Candidates for county clerk, sheriff, jailer, commonwealth’s attorney and magistrate all spoke—whether they have a primary opponent or not. We’ll have additional stories on those races in future newscasts.
