HPD arrests man for child abuse

An arrest warrant for criminal child abuse was served Thursday against a Hopkinsville man.

It alleges that on March 7th, 28-year old Bobby Lee Oliver of Hopkinsville caused injuries to a two-year old boy who was in his sole custody. The child reportedly had burns on his body, a bloody lip and bruising to his face, neck, stomach and private area.

Oliver did not take the victim to the hospital or call for an ambulance. The warrant says he told investigators that a moped he was working on fell on the child and caused the injuries, but that story was deemed inconsistent with the injuries.

Oliver could not be located during the initial investigation and police found bloody pajamas and a bloody towel in a garbage can outside Oliver’s home.

He is charged with first-degree criminal child abuse and tampering with evidence and was lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
