Kentucky lawmakers have given final passage to a bill aimed at steering pregnant inmates into rehab centers to treat their drug addiction.
The House voted 88-0 to send the “Dignity Bill” to Governor Bevin. It’s a response to Kentucky’s surging incarceration rate among women.
Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton explains what the bill mandates.
Petrie believes the legislation should be easy for everyone to support.
The legislation applies to pregnant inmates awaiting trial on nonviolent charges.
