Kentucky coal miner killed in accident

A coal miner was killed in an accident in far eastern Kentucky.

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet identified the victim as 29-year old Hubert Grubbs of Harlan. He was a pre-shifter/belt examiner with 10 years of experience and was killed in a conveyor belt accident early Wednesday morning at Revelation Energy, LLC, D11 Panther Mine in Cumberland.

He was splicing a conveyor belt when the conveyor started unexpectedly, causing fatal injuries.

Governor Matt Bevin issued a statement saying, “Our hearts break for the Harlan County community during this trying time.  It is our fervent prayer that his family and friends will find comfort through the love and support of their fellow Kentuckians in the days, weeks, and months ahead.”
