Barry Brown scored the go-ahead layup with 18 seconds left as Kansas State fought off Kentucky 61-58 in the NCAA South Region semifinals in Atlanta. Xavier Sneed led the ninth-seeded Wildcats with 22 points and Brown finished with 13 in the win. K-State coach Bruce Weber comments on the win:
Kentucky’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would’ve sent the game to overtime. Coach John Calipari expressed regret after the game for calling the final timeout:
P.J. Washington led Kentucky with 18 points, 15 rebounds and three steals. UK ends the season 26-and-11. Kansas State faces Loyola-Chicago in the Elite Eight tomorrow.
