The man who likely had the most recognizable name and face in the city of Guthrie—William “Bill” Longhurst—passed away at his home Friday morning at the age of 79.

He owned and operated Longhurst General Store, the business his father began in 1937 in downtown Guthrie.

Guthrie Mayor Scott Marshall says Longhurst was a rock in the community and called him “Mr. Guthrie.”

Longhurst was involved in many aspects of the Guthrie community and was one of the founders of the successful Guthrie Main Street program.

Funeral arrangements for Longhurst are being handled by Cook-Webb Funeral home in Guthrie.
