TVA “In Lieu of Taxes” bill passes House

Legislation long sought by local fiscal courts that would direct TVA money paid to the state in lieu of taxes to the counties where TVA maintains infrastructure was approved by the House Thursday.

House Bill 114, the “TVA In Lieu of Tax” legislation, passed on an 82-3 vote. State Representative Jason Petrie has been among its supporters and previously told WHOP it would create some extra revenue for those counties where TVA owns property.

Christian and Todd Fiscal Court have approved resolutions the last several years asking lawmakers to approve such legislation.

All members of the House from Christian, Todd and Trigg counties voted in favor of House Bill 114, which now heads to the Senate for consideration.
